ldap connection using n-card scanner

Hi, we are trying to develop a system similar to what the ITG Lab guys have or the Library guys have ..

We want people to scan their n-card scanner and we want to get their contact information directly through a ldap connection.. this is for a project submission system that we are building at the New Media Center, Arch Hall.

I contacted Jason Leichner and he said they used some ldap to do that connection but I wasn't sure how to go about it.
