page not showing full width?

Hi,

When I put this page up, http://entomology.unl.edu/announce/index.shtml
I get a slider bar, but it doesn't show the full width of the page.

What gives?

Hi,

It looks like your source code got messed up pretty bad... I'm guessing you're editing the files outside of an IDE like Dreamweaver.

Look in your source code between

Code: Select all

<!-- close main right -->
   
<!-- close container -->


There should be two </div> tags between there. There are also some missing closing tags, and extraneous tags which shouldn't be present within the content area.

My only advice is, to use the W3's Validator to determine if the problem is in the source code. http://validator.w3.org/

when I try the w3's validator, I get this helpful little message:

Sorry, I am unable to validate this document because on line 388, 418, 436, 465, 484, 493, 497, 503, 511, 519, 584, 606, 618, 650, 652, 680, 751, 755, 768, 772 it contained one or more bytes that I cannot interpret as utf-8 (in other words, the bytes found are not valid values in the specified Character Encoding). Please check both the content of the file and the character encoding indication.

Where can I find the source with line numbers? The numbers in my editor don't match up - i.e. line 388 is blank.

Hey Lisa,

I'm guessing there are some characters which were pasted in from Word or something similar.

You can force the validator to use a specified character set (I tried with Latin-1 encoding and got it to return some info).
By using the 'Show Source' option the validator will show you the lines it is looking at. Try this link:
