Pulling ongoing & upcoming events simultaniously

Postby caggens » Mon Feb 18, 2008 2:49 pm

Hello Brett,

When I pull a list of events from the events calendar into my content area, it only shows upcoming events (and skips ongoing events). When I try to show ongoing events (today's events), I also get unwanted links from the events calendar.

"Previous Day Next Day"

"Sorry, no new events were found for today! Would you like to see the upcoming list of events?"

Is there a way to list ongoing and upcoming events simultaneously without the extraneous information?

Thanks for your help.

Heya...! It's like fan-mail through the bulletin board.

There are two ways to solve this:
1. Use CSS to style the information.
2. Pull XML and display the details in any format you want.

The simplest way is to just use CSS to style the list of events you're pulling from the server. I would browse to the specific URLs in your web browser - http://events.unl.edu/art/?format=hcalendar for example. Then use 'view source.' to get an idea of the markup you'll be working with.

With this information, you can then apply some CSS to change the way the events are displayed. For more information, see the notes Aaron Coleman added to the wiki regarding the way he styled the Architecture events:
http://www1.unl.edu/wdn/wiki/Extracting ... e_Calendar

Remember you can just use display:none; to hide things you don't want to display, as Aaron did with the #feeds.

Good luck! Post back here if you have any more questions.

Hey,

I haven't been able to make it work. I don't see a tag or "selector" for the part that I want not to display:

"Previous Day Next Day"

"Sorry, no new events were found for today! Would you like to see the upcoming list of events?"

The first tag I see in the source code is <thead>.

Safari not reading css style sheet

Postby caggens » Wed Feb 20, 2008 12:58 pm

Hi again,

Just when I think I have figured this out... everything displays correctly in Firefox and IE, but Safari doesn't seem to read the css file.

I don't know what I did, but everything is working fine in Safari now, so disregard my previous post... :?

Thanks.
