OK, now I'm thoroughly confused.
The search page in that wiki example is local results only, not the combo (local+UNL+people) results I thought we were all supposed to be going for. Should we be aiming for combo or not? If not, why does the template say "Search this site, all UNL or for a person"?
I fought with this for hours and couldn't get anything but "No results found" for my beta site. "Local only" is vastly preferable to "everything but local", so I've got it doing that now, despite the search box label suggesting otherwise.
...
Meanwhile, I found some weird things while poking around other sites to see how this search behaved. If there's a bugtracker, I think these are worthy.
* In combo results, number links (for next "page" of results) for local results control the UNL results instead, giving no way to page through local results. For example, go to
http://iris.unl.edu, search for "interlibrary", click the "2" under local site results, and see which set of results is affected.
* In combo results, some sites are sporadically missing local results. For example, yesterday I searched for "grant" on
http://research.unl.edu and got combo results, including some local. This morning I did the same search from the same page and got "No results found" under local. A couple hours later, the local results were back.
* In combo results, some words are unexpectedly unsearchable. For example, VC Prem Paul is mentioned frequently on the Research website, so "paul" should return plenty of local results, and it does. But "prem" returns none.
