Problems with "Find and Replace"

Postby jewood » Tue Aug 02, 2005 9:22 am

I've been following the directions provided for setting up the templates in Dreamweaver. When I get to step #4 (Find and Replace), nothing seems to happen. It tells me "Not found in 103 documents." Maybe I'm not entering the correct directory path? Thanks for your help.

Hrm.... unless you've already made the replacement, my first guess is that 'Source Code' isn't chosen in the Search drop down.

Make sure that you're searching in the source code and not the text of the page... probably should add that to the instructions on Step #4.

I hope that's it. Let me know if it isn't... :?

Searching the source code worked. Thank you! However, I'm still not sure about my directory path. Where exactly do I want the /cssunltemplates/ to go? Thanks again.

The replacement in step 4 is basically to tell the templates where your sharedcode directory is stored.

Originally, the templates were set up for use in a directory named
/cssunltemplates/

with their sharedcode in
/cssunltemplates/sharedcode/

We just need to replace the directory path to your sharedcode, keeping in mind the templates reference their files from the root of your webserver.

Here's a few examples, with where the sharedcode is placed and what the correct replacement should be.

Code: Select all
http://www.unl.edu/ous/sharedcode/
  ======> replace  /cssunltemplates/   with    /ous/

http://www.unl.edu/unlpub/special/sharedcode/
  ======> replace  /cssunltemplates/   with    /unlpub/special/

http://irp.unl.edu/sharedcode/
  ======> replace  /cssunltemplates/   with    /

This replacement doesn't have any effect/consequences on where your .shtml file will end up being stored... but it does matter where it pulls your sharedcode from... and that's the only reason you're making that replacement. So determine where your sharedcode files are stored on the server you're using and replace /cssunltemplates/ with the path to yours.

Hope that all makes sense?

Yes, it all makes sense. I'm just not sure what my directory path is. My website is http://www.unl.edu/equity, so is my path /equity/ or /cwis/home/equity/? And, I don't need to type the whole address in, correct? I'm hoping that once this is fixed, my navigation and related links will show up when I view my page through the server. Thanks again.

Aha....

I realize now when I say 'from the root of your webserver' that's kind of confusing... whether I mean the root of the server's filesystem, or the root of where files are served on the webserver.

Yes your path would be /equity/ that's all you should need to replace to get your navigation working.

Cross your fingers!
