2011 Navigation Tweak and Google Analytics

At several WDN meetings and the some of the reports that are being quote, there have been discussions that the trend is to move more toward search than navigation because that is what the user is tending to do. If we are going to modify the navigation function of the templates in this new tweek, is there a way to build into the navigation ( and possible search will need it to) to know if the user is using a link from within our navigation structure and not from a link within the content area of the site.

Maybe we will find out that people are not using the navigation at all or very seldom and using the search or content navigation instead.

I am not sure how this would be done, but I am willing to help figure out how to code this.
