Christy Horn, ADA/504 Compliance Officer, has provided us with several statements to guide us in the integration of accessibility features within our work of building websites for UNL.
The first applies to general accessibility issues and the standards by which we measure accessibility:
"As a federal contractor, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is required to adhere to all the accessibility requirements under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. This includes fully accessible web pages. In addition, as a state agency, UNL is required to adhere to the Nebraska Technology Access Clause The Nebraska accessibility policy can be found at www.nitc.ne.gov/standards/accessibility. Compliance with the Nebraska policy will also ensure compliance with 508. The Americans with Disabilities Act requires that all University services or programs must be fully accessible so anything that might be missed under 508 will be picked up under ADA."
The following two statements pertain to creating accessible media materials:
IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A CAPTIONED VIDEO OR AUDIO TRANSCRIPTION
"If you need a transcript of any of the lectures as a reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act, please contact XXXX for assistance."
ON PAGES WITH CONTENT RELATED TO LECTURES AND PUBLIC MEETINGS:
"Anyone who requires reasonable accommodation under the Americans With Disabilities Act, such as interpreters, transcribers, assistive listening devices, special seating, or accessible media, please contact xxx at (402) xxx-xxxx, email_address@unl.edu, two weeks prior to the event to discuss arrangements. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodation to all individuals with disabilities attending any conference or meeting at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln."
