Website Survey-Unable to connect to survey.

I just got this email inviting individuals in our department to take the online survey at:
http://ucommxsrv1.unl.edu/ngrg/?at=4


The 3 of us in our department have tried unsuccessfully to connect to the survey for the last half hour. Any reason why we can't connect?

I haven't been able to get into it either... I figured the survey was just too popular for its own good.

Now I'm wondering whether people who couldn't get the page today will bother to try again later, especially considering the vagueness of the email containing the link.

That's not the entire email I received, the sender explained the survey and included the link. It seems to be accessible now.

Is it true only 4 people were allowed to access the survey at one time?

The survey was sent out to over 64 thousand people all at once.... unbeknownst to us.

Needless to say, that's a little more than we anticipated... especially all at once time.

We've spent last night and this AM re-working the system to allow in only what the server can handle while still maintaining the other applications running on the server (Peoplefinder, Calendar, News Releases etc).

People should eventually be able to get in to the system to complete the survey.

How do we check our own websites to see how many people my view content at one time?

I want to prevent anyone from not being able to view a page because there is too much traffic.

Check your Apache error log and see if there are any errors; if there's an error message stating that you need to increase your MaxClients setting, then the server has at least at one point hit a wall.

If you want to make sure your server gets overwhelmed, send out 65,000 emails within an hour asking people to load a complex page.
